Why Does Dyed Hair Turn Yellow/Orange? First Understand Your Base Colour

One sentence: dyeing or bleaching strips your hair’s original pigment, then stuffs a new colour in. Over time the new colour fades, and the underlying base colour (undertone) floats back up. And that base is different for everyone:

• Asians: hair base is warm, carries yellow. So when it fades, yellow pops out straight away
• Caucasians: after bleaching, mostly a white base, fades towards white/grey
• Indians: after bleaching, a reddish-brown base, fades towards red/orange

That “fire” you see in the mirror (we call it brass) is just your own warm base coming out.

Who Should Use Joico Color Balance? Cool Base Colour!

Important point, boss, remember this: Joico Color Balance is for COOL base colours. Meaning if your dyed colour is grey, cool brown, grey-purple, blue-black, ash — these cool tones — then it helps you.

On the other hand, if you dyed warm tones — golden brown, copper, warm red — please DON’T use blue shampoo, it’ll turn grey-ish, your whole head becomes a “grey mouse”.

Don’t Be Silly Thinking It’s a Hair Dye
